Office Online in Office 365 comes as a subscription solution, which you can scale up or down according to the need of your business.
Microsoft Office Online allows you to work in Office files everywhere, and on almost any device. Spreadsheets, presentations, notebooks, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote files can be opened in your web browser, so you can continue working on your files right wherever.
You can do the same things as in the desktop version i.e. create, edit and share documents – however, everything is gathered online.
Office Online in the Cloud With Office 365
To get started, you need to log on to Office and save your document online. Your school or business plan provides you with a OneDrive location, where you can save your documents. You can also save team documents in a library on the team site of the organization. If you have Office 365 Home Premium, you have a personal OneDrive location on OneDrive.com.
You have access to documents saved to your OneDrive and team sites, attached files in Outlook Web App, as well as meeting notes in Lync Web App from any device connected to the internet.
Once you are logged in, all of the documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and notebooks you have created in OneDrive will be saved.
Sharing documents with others is simple – all you have to do is send a link. Then you can collaborate with others and see their changes immediately
You can also open online documents in the Office programs installed on your computer, and work in them while they are saved to your OneDrive
Office Online runs via your browser, therefore nothing has to be downloaded or installed
You only have to click on a document to open it in the browser. Attached files in Outlook Web App and on Outlook.com are also opened via the browser – it’s the same with meeting notes in Lync Web App
Office.com has more than a hundred different templates, that you can access without charge. These ensure that you do not have to start from the bottom when you for instance want to make a flyer, calendar, invoice, school project, photo album, or many other types of documents
